Grateful for crazy

People think we are crazy. Sometimes this bugs me. Sometimes I want to blend in a little better. Leave that whole "called out" and "set apart" thing behind.

Today, I am grateful for crazy.

I am grateful for the insane notion that would lead a seemingly "finished" family to think there was more room at the table. I am grateful for the lunacy that it obvious when sensible people wade into the wilds of foster-adoption. I am grateful for the brand of nonsense that says four boys in a row is not something to regret, avoid or be pitied.

I am grateful for crazy. Crazy has given me a family that now boasts brown eyes mingled among the greys, blues and greens. Crazy has given me a chance to experience faith in a context henceforth unknown to me. Crazy has given me hope. Crazy has given me Jo, Atticus, Logan and Oliver.

And today, crazy has given me Manolin; fifteen or so pounds of four month-old baby boy, wrapped in a blinding haze of giggles.

Thank God for crazy.

1 Cor 3:18 (NIV) Do not deceive yourselves. If any one of you thinks he is wise by the standards of this age, he should become a "fool" so that he may become wise.

Congratulations on the arrival of Manolin!!! I've been checking off and on to see if he arrived yet! I praise God for the work you are doing and the home you are providing for these children!

A friend led me to your blog a week or so ago, and I wanted to let you know I, too, am grateful for crazy! When I thought I was at my emotional limit a few weeks, and we got another call, I actually asked my mom, "Are we crazy to think about taking another placement right now?" Supportively, she assured me that she didn't think it was crazy if we took this one and more! But to the casual onlooker, or well-meaning commenter, it's obvious that is how we are perceived. The disciples thought Jesus was crazy too...you're going to Jerusalem to do what?! But he left us that "crazy" example to follow, to lay down our lives on behalf of those in need. I'm happy to have found another crazy foster mom! :)

Please pray that I will have the courage to follow in your footsteps.

Mary Grace, I was thinking of you and your family all day. I bet it was a wonderful first day with your new little one. I hope one day I get to be as crazy as (others say) you are!

We like crazy around here too. Your brand of crazy looks a little different from our current state... but we're deemed pretty nutso by lots of people too.

But like you say-- the eyes, the smiles, the snuggles, the funny little phrases... I wouldn't trade crazy for sane for even a minute!

Yay for you and Happy Day for Manolin! Are you going to call him Manny? LOL

I just have to say that I appreciate both your reference to being crazy, and Gracie's comment on laying down one's life. I needed to hear that. I will be calling my case worker on Monday to get a question answered and see if there isn't something that can speed up the process of getting approved to foster. You inspire me, and God is still tugging me in this direction. I can't believe I waited.
